Baseball Sweeps Jefferson

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (22-9) got back on track after sweeping Jefferson on Sunday afternoon in Watertown, NY. 

Game One: Hudson Valley 7, Jefferson 4

The Vikings battled with Jefferson throughout the first game of the series, but pulled through at the end for the victory. Riley Nagle put the Vikings up for good with a solo home run in the third inning. Nagle finished the game with three hits, three RBI and one run scored to lead the Vikings offensively. 

Derrick Miller also connected for three hits, including a lead-off single to start the game, which jump-started a four-run opening inning. Vicente Mendoza recorded two hits, including a double in the first inning. Miller and Mendoza both scored on Jackson Wenstrom's 2-RBI single. 

Starting pitcher Ryan Bradt went 4.1 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits and struck out eight batters. Dylan Sheely relieved Bradt and closed out the final 2.2 innings and did not allow a run, while striking out five. 

Game Two: Hudson Valley 22, Jefferson 0

In the second game, the Vikings batted around in the fifth inning to score 10 runs in the inning, including three home runs. Ryan StarrAngelo Spataro and Dylan Pusz highlighted the fifth inning as they each recorded a home run. 

Starr hit a three-run home run, which was immediately followed by a solo home run by Spataro. Later in the inning, Pusz hit a three-run home run to cap the 10-run inning. Spataro joined Mendoza, Pusz and Nick Hansen as the only Vikings to finish the game with multiple hits. 

Starting pitcher, Kyle Lambert went three innings and allowed two hits and struck out four. Christian Nolan earned the win with a scoreless fourth inning. Alec Yager closed the game in the fifth as he allowed only one hit and struck out one batter. 

Hudson Valley is scheduled to travel to Fulton-Montgomery this Tuesday, May 7 for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
