The Hudson Valley Community College men’s soccer team kicks off the 2017 campaign on the road at Finger Lakes Community College on Thursday, Aug. 31. The Vikings season consists of 16 matches made up of eight road games and eight home matches on the turf field at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on campus.
“We are looking forward to the season and expect to be a competitive playoff team in the best region for men's soccer in junior college,” said Vikings head coach Travis Cooke. “We may have one of the toughest schedule in the country highlighted by playing three teams that made the national tournament last season and we are looking forward to the challenge while competing at the top of junior college soccer.”
The Vikings home opener is Sept. 5 when they host Fulton-Montgomery Community College with a scheduled start time of 4:00 p.m. The men’s program will have three home matches in the first five games of the 2017 season before they hit the road with three tough match-ups at Mohawk Valley CC (9/20), at Erie CC (9/23) and at Genesee CC (9/24).
The Vikings biggest match of the season is on Sept. 27 when they welcome the Region III defending champions Herkimer College. The key match-up is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time.
The Vikings conclude the regular season with three of the final five games at home with match-ups against North Country CC (10/8), SUNY Broome CC (10/11) and the season finale against Jefferson CC on Oct. 22.
The men’s soccer program finished last season with a 5-10-2 overall record (4-4-1 at home) and tallied 34 goals in its 17 games played in 2016.
All men’s soccer home games will be webcasted live through the new Hudson Valley Community College athletics website with the goal to expand and enhance the online fan experience via the Vikings Broadcast Network.
