The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team kicks off the 2017 campaign on the road at Finger Lakes Community College on Thursday, Aug. 31. The Vikings season consists of 15 matches made up of eight road games with seven home matches on the Outdoor Athletic Complex turf field.
The season opener features a tough match-up as the Finger Lakes CC women's program is coming off a successful campaign a year ago, finishing 16-3-1 and runner-up in the 2016 NJCAA Region III tournament.
"The team is very excited about the upcoming season, especially with the number of seniors returning from last year's team and the experience they bring in the tough Region 3," said Vikings head coach Jay Pokines. "The coaching staff will be relying on the senior class's leadership as we are working towards our goal of postseason play."
The Vikings home opener is Sept. 7 when they welcome Holyoke CC with a scheduled start time of 6:00 p.m. The women's program will be on the road for the majority of the first half of the season, including three straight matches at Mohawk Valley CC (9/20), at Erie CC (9/23) and at Genesee CC (9/24).
The second half of the season has more balance with five home games in the final eight games as the Vikings attempt to qualify for postseason play. The Vikings second half home games include match-ups against Herkimer College (9/27), Jamestown CC (9/29), North Country CC (10/8), SUNY Broome CC (10/11) and Jefferson CC (10/22).
The women's soccer program finished last season with an 8-9 overall record, winning six games at home while scoring 55 goals (3.24 G/gm) and allowed an average of 2.10 goals per game.
All women's soccer home games will be webcasted live through the new Hudson Valley Community College athletics website with the goal to expand and enhance the online fan experience via the Vikings Broadcast Network.
