Hudson Valley Community College women’s tennis team competed at the regional tournament hosted by Onondaga on Saturday.
Sarah Sampson (Albany/Albany) won her semifinal match against Mohawk Valley and advanced to the No.3 singles championship round on Sunday. Sampson will face-off against Onondaga for the opportunity to claim the No.3 singles regional championship.
Vikings’ No.2 Madeline Gibbons (Averill Park/Averill Park) lost a long, tough match against Onondaga in the semifinal round, 7-5, 6-7, 6-7.
The Vikings No.5 singles player, Saphire Ahlers (Rotterdam Junction/Schalmont) won her quarterfinal match against Herkimer but was couldn’t find success in the semifinal round as she lost to the region’s top No.5 singles player from Broome.
The Vikings doubles teams were unable to post victories in Saturday’s regional tournament and did not advance out of the quarterfinal round.
The women’s tennis regional tournament continues tomorrow as Sampson looks to win the No.3 singles championship.
